Independent energy advisory

Deep operational insight, turned into deal-ready intelligence.

MS Global Energy Strategy is the independent practice of Mahabir Sharma — 46 years of energy leadership across four continents. Today, that means M&A and transaction advisory spanning renewables, BESS, hydrogen, and desalination.

01 — The principal

Judgment, earned the slow way.

Mahabir Sharma is the founder of MS Global Energy Strategy, bringing 46 years of energy leadership across four continents and six countries. An IIT Roorkee-trained mechanical engineer, he has built and run power, water, and renewables businesses for three sovereign energy companies, holding chief technical officer and general manager mandates that answered directly to the board — and board seats of his own, asking the hard questions from the other side of the table.

His career has carried him from the emerging markets of the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, and India to the developed markets of Singapore, Spain, and the UK, working across the full technology spectrum — coal and combined-cycle gas plants to solar, wind, battery storage, hydrogen, and desalination. That breadth is now available to a small number of clients at a time, backed by a trusted bench of former operators and analysts he can bring in as each mandate requires. What you get is direct advice from a senior executive who has negotiated the project documentation, operated the P&L, and executed the EPC, O&M and LTSA contracts.

02 — Areas of practice

Six problems worth a phone call.

01

Corporate & portfolio strategy

Where to play, what to own, and what to exit as portfolios shift from thermal toward renewables, storage, and hydrogen.

02

Energy transition planning

Decarbonization pathways built on renewable power, grid-forming BESS, and hybridization — tested against real capital budgets and grids.

03

M&A & commercial diligence

Buy-side and sell-side advisory, and technical due diligence, across thermal, renewable, hydrogen, BESS, and desalination assets.

04

Regulatory & government affairs

Reading the politics of energy, and engaging regulators and ministries with credibility earned over four decades in the room.

05

Board & executive advisory

A discreet sounding board for chief executives, chairs, and the people about to become them.

06

Market entry & partnerships

Entering new markets and structuring the PPAs, EPC, O&M, LTSA, and concession agreements that hold.

03 — Ways of working

Scaled to the mandate.

Retained counsel

A standing advisory relationship

A fixed monthly cadence, plus the phone calls in between. For leaders who want a thinking partner on speed dial.

Focused sprints

One question, four to eight weeks

A market entry, a deal, a strategy reset — worked to a conclusion. Ends with a decision, not a deck.

Board service

Formal roles, taken selectively

Non-executive and advisory-board seats where deep energy judgment is decisive to the mandate.

04 — Selected work

Situations we know from the inside.

A sample of representative situations from four decades in the field.

AMEA Power · Renewables, West Africa

50 MW of solar, commissioned in a record 15 months

During his tenure as Chief Technical Officer, AMEA Power commissioned the Blitta PV plant in Togo — the largest utility-scale solar project in West Africa — 15 months after notice-to-proceed.

TAQA · Technical due diligence, Kurdistan Region of Iraq

Diligence on 1,000+ MW of open-cycle gas capacity

As Executive Technical Advisor, led technical due diligence on the Erbil and Sulaymaniyah open-cycle power plants, ahead of a combined-cycle expansion toward 1,500 MW.

AES · Greenfield delivery, Oman

A 427 MW power and water plant, delivered on schedule

As project manager, negotiated the power and water purchase agreement, gas supply agreement, and EPC contract for the Barka plant, then delivered it on time and passed performance acceptance testing.
